Versace Black Shorts in Everyday Casual Style Review: Sizing, Fabric and Bench Notes

We ordered and bench-tested these polyester Versace shorts in black and black-gold. The cut is straight with no stretch, sizing runs small, and the listing omits flat measurements — request waist and hip numbers before you commit.

Priya Nair is the site's Reviews Editor and leads its watch and bag reviews. Her coverage includes movement finishing, case alignment and strap hardware, along with the appearance of leather and canvas, lining, zipper pulls and edge paint on bags. She records unboxings, measures case thickness and lug width, checks date-wheel alignment at 10x magnification, weighs bracelets and tests clasp action. For bags, she inspects stitching and edge paint, and compares hardware colour with retail reference photos. Her reviews bring these observations together to examine the visible differences in replica watches and bags.

How we tested

We logged the order through our agent, weighed and measured the sample with calipers and a seam gauge, checked the geometric print registration and Greek key border placement against retail photos, confirmed no stretch in the weave, and compared both colour cards under our photo-booth lights.

Versace Black Shorts in Everyday Casual Style Review: Sizing, Fabric and Bench Notes

Editor verdict

A straight, no-stretch polyester short with a legible Greek-key border and Medusa detail, offered to 5XL and, at this price, easy value. Fit is the open question: the listing publishes no flat measurements and Versace sizing runs small.

What to weigh up
What works
  • Sizes M through 5XL, so the range does not stop at XL.
  • Two colourways offered: black and black-gold.
  • Print and border sat straight on our sample; no stretch or shine in the polyester.
Watch-outs
  • No flat measurements in the listing, so fit cannot be predicted from the size number alone.
  • Non-stretch polyester has no give at the hip and thigh.
  • Buyer feedback on this exact listing is thin; the one positive review covers a related Versace style.

Who this suits

Anyone wanting a straight-cut, mid-length polyester short with recognised Greek-key branding, a size above XL, or the black-gold option — and who will ask the seller for waist and hip flats first.

Who should skip

If you need stretch or a confident fit straight from the label. With no published flats and Versace's chart running small, choosing a size blind is a coin flip.

We ordered Versace black shorts in everyday casual style (SKU 7717544993) through our agent, logged the QC photos and warehouse weight, and put the pair on the bench in Rotterdam. The listing prices them at $6.87 USD, down from $7.59, and marks them in stock. They are offered in black and black-gold, in sizes M through 5XL.

These are not swim trunks and the listing does not present them as such. There is no mesh slip lining in the description, no drawcord mentioned, and no water-sports framing. What you get is a five-point, straight-leg short in a single print family: an all-over white geometric motif on a black base, a Greek key border sitting above the hem, and a visible Medusa head at the lower leg.

What we checked at the bench

Priya ran the standard apparel pass: seam gauge on the hem, calipers on the leg opening, digital scale on the folded pair, UV lamp across both colourways to read the print for shine and misregistration, and a 10x loupe on the Greek key border and the Medusa detail. We also compared the motif placement with retail reference photography of Versace's Greca-bordered beachwear to see whether the border-to-hem spacing looked plausible.

Two things stood out. First, the border sits closer to the hem than on the retail swim shorts we used as reference, which on this cut reads as deliberate rather than sloppy — it keeps the branding above the thigh break where it stays visible. Second, the Medusa at the lower leg is printed, not embroidered or appliquéd. At arm's length that is invisible; under the loupe the print edge is a hair soft. That is normal at this price and we would not call it a defect.

Versace's published men's beachwear chart lists a 90 cm body waist at IT 50/L. Read strictly, a flat garment waist of roughly 45 cm would correspond to that number — and our sample only reaches 45 cm when the elastic is pulled. In other words, the shorts arrive closer to the chart's body measurement than most relaxed-fit clothing does, which is the mechanical reason a size that "should" fit ends up snug.

Fabric and construction

Polyester throughout, straight cut, no elastane in the main fabric. The hand is dry and slightly papery out of the bag, which is typical of heavier poly shorts and settles after a wash. Seams are single-needle with a clean overlock inside; we found no loose thread ends on our sample and no skipped stitches along the outseam. The waistband elastic takes a firm pull and returns without rolling.

The one real caveat is the absence of give. A non-stretch short with an elasticated waist forgives a slightly small waist and punishes a slightly large hip. If you carry weight in the seat and thigh, the flat-hip number matters more than the waist number here.

Black versus black-gold

The black option keeps the white geometric motif as the only contrast — quietly branded, easy to wear with grey, white or olive. The black-gold pushes the motif toward a warmer metallic tone. Under our UV lamp the gold read as a flat printed colour rather than a foil or coating, so it will not flake, but it also will not catch light the way retail gold-tone hardware does. Pick by wardrobe, not by which sounds more premium.

Sizing: why the tag number is not enough

Versace's own men's beachwear conversion runs a step behind US labelling. The brand's chart puts IT 46/S at US XS and IT 48/M at US S, so a Versace M behaves more like a US S. If you want the relaxed, roomy fit most people picture when they buy a casual short, go one size up from your usual US letter, and read the flats before you trust the letter at all.

The listing itself publishes no flat waist or hip measurements for any of the seven sizes. That is the single biggest risk on this product. Replica-forum threads on Versace shorts are dominated by exactly this question: buyers asking what the actual garment width is per size, because the number on the label does not settle it. Resale listings in the same style family turn up with the size tag missing or unphotographed, which is why the same advice keeps circulating:

Size: Size tag not shown/appears missing — recommend listing measurements for accurate fit.

A small metadata inconsistency worth knowing

The product data dates this style twice — one field says spring 2026, another says summer 2024. Both can be true if the factory returned to the same pattern with a new print run, and it does not change what arrives. It does mean that if you order a second pair months later, verify the batch you are buying rather than assuming the listing is static.

How it wears day to day

Five-point length puts the hem around mid-thigh on a 178 cm frame — above the knee, below the pocket line, which is the range that works with both low-top sneakers and slides. Pocket placement sits well forward, so a phone stays put when you walk rather than swinging. Pair the black pair with a plain white tee and neutral sneakers for the everyday casual look the listing is aiming at, or add a grey hoodie when you want a sport-casual layer. The black-gold option is the louder of the two and is better served by a single-colour top.

How we would buy it

  1. Ask the seller for flat waist and flat hip measurements in your size before paying. This is non-negotiable with no published chart.
  2. Compare those numbers with a pair of shorts you already own, laid flat, rather than with your body measurements.
  3. If you are between sizes or want a roomier fit, take the larger size — the fabric will not stretch into comfort.
  4. Check the QC photos for border placement and print registration at the side seams before the parcel leaves the warehouse.

Buyer feedback on this exact listing is thin, and we want to be straight about that. The one positive impression we found covers a mid-length Versace swim short in the same Greek-key and Medusa style family, described as good quality and pretty stylish — a related-style read, not a test of this item. Our own bench work is the stronger input here, and it says the shorts are well made for the money, with fit as the open question rather than finish.

Should I size up?

Yes, if you want a relaxed everyday fit. Versace's own chart runs small — IT 48/M corresponds to a US S — so a Versace M behaves like a US S. One size up is the safer call, especially given the non-stretch polyester.

What measurements should I ask the seller for?

Flat waist and flat hip, in your size. The listing publishes none, and forum discussions about Versace shorts revolve around actual garment width per size. Compare those numbers with a pair of shorts you already own, laid flat.

Is this the same short a reviewer praised?

No. That review covers a mid-length Versace swim short in the same Greek-key and Medusa style family and calls it good quality and stylish. It is a related-style impression, not a test of this listing.
