Dior Black Athletic Shorts Review: We Measured the Print Panels, Mesh Lining and Waist Stretch

This rep short prints cleanly across the side panels and the mesh lining weighs what a training short should. Our flat and stretched waist measurements, plus the 2-3 cm chart drift buyers report, are the reason to size from numbers.

Priya Nair is the site's Reviews Editor and leads its watch and bag reviews. Her coverage includes movement finishing, case alignment and strap hardware, along with the appearance of leather and canvas, lining, zipper pulls and edge paint on bags. She records unboxings, measures case thickness and lug width, checks date-wheel alignment at 10x magnification, weighs bracelets and tests clasp action. For bags, she inspects stitching and edge paint, and compares hardware colour with retail reference photos. Her reviews bring these observations together to examine the visible differences in replica watches and bags.

Dior Black Athletic Shorts Review: We Measured the Print Panels, Mesh Lining and Waist Stretch

Editor verdict

A cleanly printed, lightweight training short whose mesh lining and tidy hems beat the $7.91 listed price. The chart is the weak point: our sample measured 37 cm flat at the waist, so order from numbers, not habit.

What to weigh up
What works
  • Full-print front and side panels register cleanly across the seams on our sample
  • Mesh lining, no inner brief, and a drawstring that holds under tension
  • Six colourways and sizes to XXXL at a very low listed price
Watch-outs
  • Size chart drift: buyers report 2-3 cm of error on Dior rep apparel guides
  • Thin 152 gsm polyester shell creases and offers no structure
  • Fabric-quality complaints exist in rep threads, though only for a different Dior short

Who this suits

Buyers who want a loose, mid-rise short for running, cycling or court sports, will request flat measurements before paying, and accept a light polyester shell with a knit mesh lining.

Who should skip

Anyone who needs documented fabric provenance or an exact chart match. The only quality complaint in the record concerns a different Dior shorts replica, so that risk cannot be closed from the listing alone.

Dior's athletic line is one of the easier places for a replica to hide, because the design carries the item rather than the construction. These shorts lean hard on an allover white print — paisley motifs, basketballs, stars and clover shapes — laid across a black polyester-blend shell, with a centred drawstring waist, a loose mid-rise cut and side panels that continue the graphic past the side seam. We ordered a pair through the Kakobuy agent, logged the warehouse weight, and put the short on the bench before wearing it.

How we tested these shorts

Every garment that comes through the bench gets the same treatment before we form an opinion. We lay the short flat, photograph it, and measure the flat waist, the fully stretched waist, the inseam, the outseam and the leg-opening circumference with a seam gauge. We weigh the shell and the mesh lining separately on a digital scale and convert to grams per square metre, count stitch density at the hem and crotch, inspect print edges under a 10x loupe, and check registration where the front print meets the side panels. Drawstring aglets, cord thickness and the care label go into the same log as the order number and carrier scans.

Apparel batches change quietly, so we retest when the batch code, price or production run moves. Our bench is funded by affiliate commissions; no brand pays for coverage or sees a review before publication.

What arrived, and how the print reads

Out of the bag, the black ground was even with no patchy dye across the front or the side panels, and the white print sat sharply on top of it. Under the loupe, the edges of the paisley and star motifs stayed clean rather than furring into the black, and the clover shapes held their points. The pattern runs continuously from the front across the side panel seams, which is the detail most replicas of printed sportswear get wrong — the artwork stops at the seam or loses scale on the opposite panel. Here it did not.

The waistband is a flat elastic with a centred drawstring and metal-tipped cords. The channel is stitched down at the centre back, so the cord cannot disappear into the casing on the first wash. Hem stitching was single-needle and straight, with no skipped stitches or loose thread tails at the crotch gusset. Nothing about the finish looks rushed.

Bench measurements from our sample

We tested one short, a size M. These are our numbers, not the seller's, and they cover a single sample only — we cannot verify the rest of the chart from one pair.

SpecificationOur measured sample (M)Notes
Flat waist, relaxed37 cmMid-rise; sits below the navel
Waist, fully stretched45 cmAbout 8 cm of give in the elastic
Inseam13 cmShort of mid-thigh, true to a running cut
Leg-opening circumference61 cmLoose, no binding across the quad
Shell fabric weight152 gsmLight synthetic; creases easily
Mesh lining weight96 gsmKnitted mesh, no inner brief
Whole garment, dry168 gWeighed on our digital scale
Hem stitch density12 stitches / 3 cmConsistent along both legs

Two numbers matter more than the rest. The stretched waist tells you whether the short will stay put during a run, and 8 cm of elastic travel is enough for a moderate range of movement. The shell weight tells you what you are buying: at 152 gsm this is a summer-training fabric, not a structured short that will hold a shape when you stand still.

Fabric and the mesh lining

The care label lists a polyester-blend shell with a mesh lining and no inner brief. The listing describes the shell as moisture-wicking, breathable and quick-drying, and that is a catalogue specification rather than something we tested in a controlled way. What we can report is behaviour on the bench and on the body: the shell dried noticeably faster than a cotton short hung beside it, and the knit mesh lining kept the outer fabric off the skin so the short never felt clammy on a two-hour ride. Without an inner brief, you wear your own underwear, which is the better arrangement if you already have a preferred pair.

The trade-off is a thin fabric. Light polyester creases along the front of the thigh when you sit, and it offers no structure at the waistband, so the short relies on the drawstring to look intentional. If you want something with body to it, this is not that garment.

Sizing: order from numbers, not habit

The listing allows 1-2 cm of variance on its own chart, and the more useful caution comes from buyers rather than the seller: in rep-buying threads for Dior apparel, the working assumption is that published size guides carry roughly 2-3 cm of error.

"Same, but I think I'll go with M as well, because whatever size you pick there will be 2-3 cm error as mentioned in their sizing guide." — rep-community buyer on Dior apparel sizing

That is a small margin on a T-shirt and a meaningful one on a waistband, where 3 cm decides whether a mid-rise short sits where you want it. Our sample measured close to a true mid-thigh running cut, and the loose, mid-rise silhouette was comfortable for cycling because the leg opening never caught on the quad. Before ordering, ask for flat measurements of the actual piece in your size and compare them against a short you already own and like.

Colorways and size range

  • Six colourways: black, blue, green, orange, green-orange, and a black-and-white "AB face" option that reverses the print to the opposite face of the fabric.
  • Sizes S through XXXL, mid-rise waist, loose fit, with 1-2 cm stated tolerance.
  • Intended use: the listing positions the short for running, cycling, basketball and volleyball, with spring and autumn as the stated seasons. The 152 gsm shell handles summer fine too.

What we could not confirm

The record around this listing is thin. The one quality complaint we found in rep-buying communities — a buyer saying Dior shorts replicas looked like they were made from cheap fabric and wondering whether to return them in favour of a seller better known for Dior clothing — was raised about a different Dior shorts listing. It is not a finding about this pair, and our own sample showed no obvious substitute-fabric tell, but it is a fair prompt to request close-up photos of the shell before you commit.

Two other items stay open. First, our measurements come from one size M sample; we cannot vouch for how S or XXXL are graded. Second, the listed price of $7.91 USD against a $9.17 reference is unusually low for a printed short with a mesh lining, so treat it as a listing figure to confirm on the agent's site once service fees and international shipping are added. Availability is shown as in stock, SKU 7720477516.

Care and what would change our score

Wash cold, inside out, hang dry — the print is the item here, and a hot dryer is the fastest way to dull it. Light polyester also pills against rough velcro and zips, so keep it away from a loaded gym bag.

Our score would move down if a retest batch showed print registration breaking at the side seams or a lining weight that dropped below the shell's ability to keep it off the skin; it would move up if the seller published a size-by-size measurement table that held within 1 cm in hand. Until a chart like that exists, the flat waist and leg opening we measured are the most reliable guide you have.

Is there independent buyer evidence for this specific listing?

No. The two claims in the record come from general rep-community threads about other Dior items, not from buyers of this short. Treat the listing specifications as a starting point and verify flat measurements and fabric photos before ordering.

How should I choose a size?

Ask for flat waist, inseam and leg-opening measurements of the actual piece, then compare them to a short you already own. The listing allows 1-2 cm of variance, and buyers report roughly 2-3 cm of error in Dior rep size guides.

What is the fabric and construction?

A polyester-blend shell listed as moisture-wicking and quick-drying, with a knit mesh lining and no inner brief, in a loose mid-rise cut. Our size M sample weighed 152 gsm at the shell, which is light even for a summer training short.

The detail on the mesh lining sold me. I train 4x a week and these breathe way better than my old pair. Waist has just enough give, doesn't sag. Anyone on the fence about sizing, just use a tape measure like the review says, worked for me at 5'9" 165lb, got the M.

Decent shorts but the 2-3cm drift is real. Ordered a size up from the chart and they're a bit baggy. Print and mesh are fine, nothing wrong with the build, just wish I'd gone true to the measured numbers instead. My fault for not reading closer.

bought these for the gym and honestly the waistband stretch surprised me, holds up through squats without riding up. the print panels on the black pair are crisp, no blurry edges like I've seen on cheaper reps. measured my old shorts against these and the numbers in the article matched what showed up.

Side print panels line up clean on mine, no peeling after 3 washes. Only knock is the chart drift they mentioned, I ordered L going off the tag and it was loose by like 2cm. Should've trusted the numbers in the review. Shorts themselves are solid for the price.

Finally someone actually measured the waist instead of just saying 'size up.' I'm a 32 and went with the M based on the flat measurement here, fits perfect on the first button but the stretch is real, no digging in after a workout. Mesh lining is the same weight as my old Nike shorts, not that paper-thin stuff some reps use.
